Tom S. (102) | Monday June 20, 2011, 5:04 am Republicans rode the wave of ?Jobs, Jobs, Jobs? to victory in 2010. Since then, they have waged unrestricted class warfare against the American people. For jobs, their only proposal is to return to the policies that made Bush the worst president in modern history for job losses. Democrats have stayed largely on the defensive, reacting to scheme after scheme by Republicans, each more draconian that the last. Finally, Democrats are planning a jobs program, which is good. The problem is, getting them to agree is like herding cats. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Please try again later. ? |
![]() Fred Lemon (9) | Monday June 20, 2011, 5:44 am I have wondered why more people are not asking republicans where their ideas are for jobs as they ran on in 2010. I state again that if they put the effort into job creation as they have in abortion and deficit reduction something might hapen to help. Of course they do not want unemployment to go down since then they would lose their major soundbites. They are truly demonstrating an obstructionist agenda. The Democrats need to put something out there and I think individual bills rather than one huge package would be clearly show who is acting against the best interests of the country. More stimulus money? ?There?s no easy answer to this,? Sen. Joe Lieberman Of course there is an easy answer and both parties know it but they are too busy trying to get re-elected. 1) Provide "disincentives" (taxes et al) for the foreign operations of corporatings relying heavily on foreign workers. 2) Increase taxes on the wealthy and use those revenues to improve our manufacturing infrastructure. 3) Address the cost of the illegal immigration issue. 4) Stop our spending on wars. 5) Stop trying to buy friendship/support by foreign aid. ![]() Kit B. (283) | Monday June 20, 2011, 7:23 am I posted this earlier and it seems to fit here as well - consider it a rant if you will. (Please Tom forgive me for carrying on and using up too much space, I'm really angry and fed up with all of this.) I don't like government or any one determining what we do with our lives, I want government to do only that which is needed to aid the greater community of the American people. In my mind that means, keeping roads, bridges, dams and all forms of transportation in superior working order at all times without excuses. We as taxpayers (unlike other countries) already supplement air lines what do we get in return? It includes all needed emergency intervention, whether that is for fires, floods, snow storms, hurricanes, earthquakes or tornadoes, etc... no discussions no debates get the help there on the scene the same day. Give all aid, comfort and safety to those in need no expense spared, these people in trouble are not THEM, these people are us. Don't talk about immigration and border security, don't allow this to be a political football - write a comprehensive modern immigration policy, then enforce it and secure our borders. Terrorism can not be played out on a battle field and this country can not continue to spend nearly 2 Billion dollars a week because we still we "talk" about having something to win. We are exhausting our abilities to function and spending ourselves into bankruptcy because of ideological thinking not rational thinking. We have no need for 1,000 permanent military installations across the world. Our soldiers and their families are pushed beyond the breaking point and as a nation we do little more then "bumper sticks" to support them. We have discussed the need and reality for an immediate transition to renewable fuels as the rest of world is doing, so far we are still "talking" and not doing. What ever happened to that "can do" attitude of Americans? We now must add to this social contract a full revamping of health care with no compromises and no room for attitudes that allow the elderly, children or the poor to be the first in line to die from lack of care. Spend money on this country and it's people, rebuild America, put people to work and the economic woes will rapidly turn around, policies of "belt tightening" are old thinking have never worked. Move forward not backward to old worn out thinking. And... Both parties need to stop the BS and come together for honest action for us the American people. Or better yet, we can dump them both and form a fresh new party one that combines the best ideas of both and leaves the rhetoric behind. I am life long democrat and fully disgusted with both parties. I don't know why we assume we must only "hire" the wealthy FAT CATS to represent us - they haven't represented us for some time now. I am so tired of hearing that it's all the fault of ------ fill in the blank because neither the name nor the party affiliation really matters any longer. Stop lying and altering the facts to suit the money bags that finance a campaign. We - all of us are responsible and guilty of laziness and complacency. Now back to reality. If you are talking about Congress, both parties will never stop their B.S. and come together. It would be nice if many of the constituents of both parties would, but that doesn't seem very lilely. They are having too much fun bashing each other. A third party would be super but it will never be allowed to get legs. So what to do? Hellova good question! Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. ![]() Ann H. (28) | Monday June 20, 2011, 4:59 pm Tom and Fred, I agree with both of you. Cal also posted a good article earlier today about how corporations are sitting on 22% net profit because individual productivity is so high they don't need to hire additional workers. Various economists and job banks have been quoted on the news recently that our high schools and colleges are not producing workers with the right skills, but they don't mention exactly what those skills might be. I favor business-education cooperatives where the former defines the skill sets needed and the latter provide them with the understanding (or guarantee) that X number of graduates will be hired. Bu$h Wackers stold our pensions, tortured, started "pre-emptive" wars, Bankrupted the country while Giving Pay-Offs to their Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Everything (except heart) Friends - starving us, Union-busting, out-sourcing and THEN DENYING ALL Responsibility!
